On to Vanuatu
We're currently in Lautoka, Fiji checking out with customs and immigration and spending the last of our currency on produce, etc. for the 4 day passage to Vanuatu. Our visit here has been memorable and as we continue West we hope to find even more cultural experiences. Ron and Cynthia Chisum joined us for some fantastic fishing, village exploring and a visit to our favorite island of Makongai where they raise giant clams. With a special permit we were able to visit the secluded Lau group that is located between Tonga and Fiji and found the most beautiful anchorages in the South Pacific with islands that looked like giant mushrooms draped with green vines. The Flying Fox or fruit bat was plentiful and noisy as they hung from the trees behind our boat. Spring has arrived with lighter winds, warmer days and nights and "mozzies" mosquitoes. The water is 81 degrees on this side of the country but still not as clear as you would hope for snorkeling. Bill Dean has arrived to crew with us for the rest of the season, wherever it takes us after Vanuatu. The coin toss will be between NZ and Australia.
